President Joe Biden is the front-runner to run for re-election as the Democratic candidate for the White House. Prior to his announcement, only two blue candidates had officially announced their candidacy, neither of whom carry a significantly prominent or high-profile.

Joe Biden

Although it took a long time, the current president finally took the step and announced his official candidacy on March 25 through a video shared on social networks. Biden assured that he is running to "finish the job" he started during this legislature. "Every generation has a moment when they have had to defend democracy. Defend its fundamental freedoms. I believe this is ours," he points out in the tweet.

Marianne Williamson

The self-help guru was the first to make her candidacy official as a Democratic nominee. The best-selling spiritual writer announced her candidacy during an interview with Northwestern University-affiliated student publication Medill News Service in February and later confirmed it on March 4. This is the second time she has launched a campaign intending to become the first female president of the U.S. In her bid in 2020, she stepped down before the start of the primaries, with only 1% support in the polls, claiming that the media had misrepresented her work and mission. In 2024, Williamson suspended her campaign for less than a month, rejoining the race after the Michigan primary in February.

Robert F. Kennedy (will eventually run as an independent candidate)

The latest of the Kennedy dynasty to try to conquer the White House announced his candidacy after launching a weeks-long evaluation campaign. After denouncing the Democratic Party's attitude toward him, he announced that he will run for office as an independent. His father, Robert F. Kennedy, was assassinated during the 1968 Democratic primary campaign, while his uncle, John F. Kennedy won the presidency in 1963. Kennedy Jr. is a best-selling author and began working as a lawyer for environmental causes. He is a well-known anti-vaccine activist, a position which he took even more seriously during the covid pandemic, in which he also took a stand against confinement.

'Joe Exotic'

The controversial Joe Maldonado (or King Tiger), announced his candidacy as a Democratic candidate from prison, where he is serving a 22-year sentence for attempting to hire a hitman to murder animal rights activist Carole Baskin and for animal abuse. He defends abortion, the right to bear arms and private property.

Dean Phillips (retired)

The Minnesota representative announced his presidential candidacy on October 26 in an exclusive interview with CBS News. Dean Phillips assured that one of the main reasons that have led him to run is the polling data. The vast majority reflect a Trump victory over Biden in the 2024 elections. In addition, he believes that Joe Biden should step aside, even though he praised him saying that "he has done a spectacular job for our country". He has a short political career.
