The youngest member of the famed Kennedy saga, Robert F. Jr., announced that he will run against Joe Biden and self-help guru Marianne Williamson, to be the Democratic Party's nominee for the 2024 presidential election. The aspirant, who launched an initiative in March to ask blue supporters if they think he should run, finally decided to take the plunge.

Kennedy Jr. formalized his candidacy with the Federal Election Commission on Wednesday, the Associated Press reported. Robert Jr. will thus follow in the political footsteps of his uncle, former President John F. Kennedy, and his father, Robert F. Kennedy, who ran for the Democratic presidential primary in 1968, but was assassinated by Sirhan Sirhan during the campaign.

Another Kennedy in the presidential race

The younger member of the familiar saga is a well-known climate lawyer and bestselling author. He has been an anti-vaccine activist for years, a stance that became even more radical with the covid pandemic. Kennedy Jr. was also prominent in its opposition to confinement during the pandemic.

So far, Kennedy Jr. and Williamson are the only two who have announced that they will be vying to replace Joe Biden as the Democratic front-runner for the White House next year. Although all indications are that he will run for reelection, Biden himself has not yet made his decision official. On the other hand, the Republican Party will be campaigning with former President Donald Trump, businessman Vivek Ramaswamy, former ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley, and former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson.
