Self-help book author Marianne Williamson announced Thursday that she will compete for the Democratic nomination for the 2024 presidential election. Williamson is the first Democratic challenger to announce her intention to run for president.

During an interview with the university outlet Medill News Service, the spiritual best-selling author and 2020 Democratic presidential candidate confirmed that she will hold an event in Washington on March 4 to officially launch her campaign.

I wouldn’t be running for president if I didn’t believe I could contribute to harnessing the collective sensibility that I feel is our greatest hope at this time.

No other Democrat has so far announced their candidacy, although analyses suggest that Joe Biden will run for reelection, making Marianne Williamson his first rival for the time being. On the Republican side, there are already several candidates who have announced their intent: former president Donald Trump, businessman Vivek Ramaswamy, and former UN ambassador Nikki Haley

In 2020, Williamson launched a campaign with the slogan "Join the Evolution." The candidate, who has never held an elected office, dropped out of the Democratic race before the primary, with less than 1% in the polls. During her previous candidacy, Williamson said the media intentionally misrepresented her work and mission.
