Angel Studios' new film, "Sound of Freedom," surpassed the box office grosses of feature films such as "Mission Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One" and "The Flash," following the endorsement of former President Donald Trump.

In only four weeks, the independent sex trafficking project has managed to raise almost $150 million in domestic ticket sales, and while the figure might be considered small compared to other major motion picture productions, it is an impressive amount for a film that only cost just over $14 million to make.

According to a report by CNBC, Sound of Freedom surprised many by surpassing the nearly $140 million grossed by "Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One" since its July 12 release. The production also grossed more than "The Flash," which narrowly topped $100 million domestically.

"Angel Studios deserves a tremendous amount of credit for designing and executing one of the most unexpected indie box office runs in years," opined BoxOffice.com chief analyst Shawn Robbins.

The film has been so successful that it went from being shown in 2,600 theaters to more than 3,400 in the last few weeks. As if this were not enough, in the last two weekends the drop in sales has not even reached 40% and usually the highest grossing productions see at least a 50% reduction in sales each week.

Conservative support

The film has been extremely popular among conservative politicians. In fact, last month Donald Trump hosted a private screening of the film at his New Jersey golf club.

South Carolina Senator Tim Scott commented through social networks about the importance of the film and that he found it extremely "powerful" as it reveals "the horrifying reality that is human trafficking."
