Amazon will start selling cars online in 2024

The e-commerce giant will launch the vehicle sales category in the U.S. In a statement, the platform announced its "extensive strategic partnership" with Hyundai (which will be the first brand available to buy).

Starting next year, Amazon will include in its product catalog a new category. It will allow dealers to sell their vehicles to customers:

In 2024, car dealers will be able to sell vehicles in the Amazon store in the U.S. for the first time, and Hyundai will be the first brand available for customers to purchase (...) This new digital shopping experience will make it easier for customers purchasing a new car online (...) This new purchasing experience will create another way for dealers to publicize their selection and offer convenience to their customers.

Amazon will launch a vehicle category in the U.S. In a statement, the company announced that it will begin offering Hyundai brand cars as part of a "broad strategic partnership." The automotive manufacturer said that it "has selected AWS as its preferred cloud provider" and next-generation Hyundai vehicles will be even more responsive and interactive with Alexa Built-in.

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said:

Hyundai is a highly innovative company that shares Amazon's passion for trying to make customers' lives better and easier every day (...) Our broad, strategic partnership should do just that, from changing the ease with which customers can buy vehicles online, to making it simple to use Alexa in Hyundai vehicles for entertainment, shopping, smart home adjustments, and calendar checks, to enabling Hyundai to transform their customer experiences and business operations by moving to AWS. We look forward to inventing together for many years.

How does purchasing a vehicle through Amazon work?

According to Amazon, the process of buying a car involves purchasing the car online and either picking it up at your nearest local dealership or having it delivered directly. However, the company did not announce whether this pilot program will be launched nationwide.
