Donald Trump surpasses Biden by four points in latest poll after new indictment

The former president's legal troubles do not seem to be affecting the polls. He is currently the clear favorite against President Biden, with 42% against 38%.

Even legal woes cannot stop Donald Trump's electoral bid. A recent poll conducted by Premise assured that Donald Trump would come out ahead of Joe Biden in the 2024 presidential election by four percentage points. The poll indicates that the Republican would obtain the support of 42% of the surveyed voters, while the Democratic candidate would have the support of 38%.

It is a tighter race between the Democrat and the second leading candidate for the Republican Party in the 2024 presidential election, Ron DeSantis. There, the current president beats the Florida governor by two percentage points, 36% to 34%.

Donald Trump is the clear frontrunner to lead the GOP

The survey, taken among 1,726 Americans from Aug. 2-7, was conducted just after special prosecutor Jack Smith formally indicted the former president for what happened in the 2020 election. Trump laughed off the matter, even insinuating that the more indictments, the better chance he has of returning to the White House:

What is clear is that Donald Trump is the favorite to lead the Republican Party in the 2024 presidential election. Fifty-four percent of respondents prefer the former president to be the GOP nominee. He is followed by Ron DeSantis (16%), Vivek Ramaswamy (7%), Mike Pence (6%), Nikki Haley (4%) and Tim Scott (4%).

Closing out the ranking are Liz Cheney and Ted Cruz, who have 2% support each, while Chris Christie has the backing of only 1% of those polled. Mike Pompeo did not receive support from any of the survey's respondents.
