'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' actor Andre Braugher dies at 61

American actor Andre Braugher died at the age of 61. The news was confirmed Wednesday by his representative, Jennifer Allen, to the media. The cause of death was reported to be a brief illness, but no specific details were provided.

Braugher was a two-time Emmy winner and star of the police comedy "Brooklyn Nine-Nine." Terry Crews, Braugher's co-star in the series, wrote a message on his Instagram account mourning the death of his fellow actor. "Can’t believe you’re gone so soon. I’m honored to have known you, laughed with you, worked with you and shared 8 glorious years watching your irreplaceable talent," Crews wrote on his Instagram account.

Likewise, Crews sent condolences to Braugher's family. "Thank you for your wisdom, your advice, your kindness and your friendship. Deepest condolences to your wife and family in this difficult time. You showed me what a life well lived looks like," Crews said.

Braugher's career began with the 1989 film "Glory," where he played the role of a soldier belonging to a black Union regiment during the American Civil War. On the small screen, his career took off when he played detective Frank Pembleton in "Homicide: Life on the Street," winning an Emmy Award in 1998.
