New documents have revealed the relationship between the Biden Administration, Facebook and Twitter when it comes to censoring content on social networks. The lawsuit filed by the New Civil Liberties Alliance, the Missouri Attorney General and the Louisiana Attorney General revealed that scores of federal officials secretly communicated with the social media platforms to censor and remove private posts that were unfavorable to officials such as Anthony Fauci and his questionable handling of the coronavirus pandemic.
The New Civil Liberties Alliance noted that "under the First Amendment, the federal government cannot police private speech or pick winners and losers in the marketplace of ideas. Nevertheless, that is precisely what the government has done - and continues to do - on a massive scale. Communications from multiple agencies demonstrated that the federal government has exerted enormous pressure on social media companies, pressure to which the companies have repeatedly caved."

The plaintiffs allege that the federal government actively colluded with major technology companies to censor conversations about covid that they believed contained false or inaccurate information, according to recently released emails.

For example, in an email dated July 16, 2021, and addressed to U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, a senior Facebook representative discussed how the company and Biden Administration officials met "to better understand the scope of what the White House expects [from Zuckerbergs company] in terms of disinformation."
The email sent to Murthy came a day after the Surgeon General issued a warning against the "threat of health misinformation," in which Murthy called on "technology and social media companies" to "do more to address the spread on their platforms." At the same time, President Joe Biden accused platforms such as Facebook and Twitter of "killing people" by allowing information on social media that could encourage people not to get vaccinated against covid.

Protection of Fauci and interest in pleasing Biden
The censorship went beyond the alleged disinformation related to covid. Another of the emails shows that the White House Covid-19 Response Team's digital director, Clarke Humphrey, sent an email to Facebook asking if the company could remove an Instagram account that parodied Dr. Anthony Fauci.

In addition to Facebook, Twitter also went out of its way to please the federal government in relation to covid. The emails also show that Twitter asked to set up regular meetings with government health officials to "examine trends" regarding "problematic content," such as "Covid cures" and fraudulent "vaccine cards."
These revelations come on the heels of Meta (Facebook) CEO Mark Zuckerberg's confirmation that the FBI interfered in the 2020 presidential election by pressuring his company to censor what was allegedly Russian disinformation, such as the Hunter Biden laptop story.
Several White House staff members are among the more than 50 federal officials linked to these efforts to eliminate the alleged disinformation.
