VIDEO: This is the moment police arrested Paul Pelosi's assailant

Footage captures the moment David DePape assaulted Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi's husband.

The bodycam footage of David DePape's arrest has been released. This is the man who used a hammer to attack Paul Pelosi, husband of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. DePape has been charged with assault and attempted kidnapping.

Fox News has the video of DePape breaking into the house with his hammer.

The bodycam video shows the officers arriving at Pelosi's home and knocking on the door.

They are met with David DePape and Paul Pelosi. DePape and Pelosi open the door. DePape can be seen with a hammer in his hand. He cannot use it, because Pelosi is holding the top half with his right hand. In his left hand, Pelosi is holding a cup full of ice cubes.

"Everything's good"

The policemen ask them: "Hi, how are you doing? What's going on, man?" DePape responds by saying, "Everything's good."

Paul Pelosi didn't have pants on. At one point, it didn't seem like anything bad was going to happen because they were both smiling at the policemen. Paul Pelosi may have thought he was safe in the presence of the officers.

"Drop the hammer. What is going on here?" says one of the policemen. Pelosi says, "hey, hey, hey...". David DePape then takes control of the weapon and uses it to strike Paul Pelosi in the head. The police officers rush in and manage to tackle Depape. Soon after, they can be heard shouting "Give me a hand, give me a hand!"

The next thing that can be heard is Pelosi snoring after being knocked out by Depape. The video ends with police calling in a request for medical attention.

"He says he's a friend"

Paul Pelosi's telephone conversation with the San Francisco Police has also been made public.

Pelosi has the following exchange with the 911 operator:

  • SFPD: This is San Francisco Police. Do you need help?
  • Paul Pelosi: I'm just waiting for my wife to come back. Nancy Pelosi.
  • SFPD: Do you need police, fire, or medical for anything?
  • Paul Pelosi: I don't think so. I don't think so.
  • Paul Pelosi: Is the Capitol Police around? They're usually here at the house, protecting my wife.
  • SFPD: No. This is San Francisco Police.

At this point, a voice is heard, which is that of David DePape. The operator asks for him, and Paul Pelosi replies, "No, this gentleman just came into the house. He wants to wait here for my wife to come home." The conversation between the two continues:

  • SFPD: Do you know who the person is?
  • Paul Pelosi: No. I don't know who he is. He told me not to do anything.
  • SFPD: What is your address, sir?
  • Paul Pelosi: (inaudible answer).
  • SFPD: What is your name?
  • Paul Pelosi: My name is Paul Pelosi. Anyway. This gentleman says that... He's telling me to put the phone down and do what he says.

Briefly, David intervenes in the conversation. The operator asks for the name of the person with him, and David says his name out loud. "His name is David," says Pelosi.

  • SFPD: Ok. And who is David?
  • Paul Pelosi: I don't know.
  • David DePape: I'm a friend of theirs.
  • Paul Pelosi: He says he is a friend.
  • SFPD: But you don't know who he is?
  • Paul Pelosi: No. No, ma'am.

Paul Pelosi insists that he needs to get off the phone at that point. This is where the conversation ends.
