This Saturday, thousands of Twitter users reported experiencing platform failures. However, this is not a problem with the operation of the social network but rather an update that imposes new limitations.
Thousands of users worldwide shared that they were experiencing errors on Twitter. Many indicated that when they tried to update the application, they were left with a blank screen and a message confirming an error.
The #Twitterdown hashtag was trending, and some reported receiving a message indicating their accounts exceeded a "limit." At first, it was believed to be a problem with the server; shortly after that, Twitter CEO Elon Musk announced that it began to restrict the number of publications users can read daily.
According to the tycoon, this upgrade will be temporary and seeks to "address extreme levels of data scraping and system manipulation."
The limits
Musk informed that the limitation would differ depending on the account type held in the social network. In principle, he indicated that verified accounts would be limited to read only 6,000 publications per day. In contrast, unverified accounts would only be able to access 600, and the limitation for new accounts that are not verified would be 300 per day.
However, shortly after that, he made another announcement increasing the limit a bit more. "The rate limits will soon increase to 8,000 for verified, 800 for unverified and 400 for new unverified," he stated.
Reactions
As expected, reactions from users were not long in coming, most of them complaining about the decision and even using memes to say that this seemed to be the end of the social network.
