This Monday, Rick Harrison, the entrepreneur and star of "Pawn Stars," shared the heartbreaking news that his 39-year-old son Adam lost his life to a fentanyl overdose. Harrison expressed his grief and concern, blaming the border crisis for the loss of his son.
"I can confirm Adam died from a fentanyl overdose," the 58-year-old businessman recounted a few days after news broke that his son was found dead in Las Vegas.
Harrison stressed that the fentanyl crisis in the country needs to be addressed more seriously and steps taken to fix it. "The fentanyl crisis in this country must be taken more seriously. It seems it is just flowing over the borders and nothing is being done about it. We must do better," he opined.
While no further details have been provided about the circumstances surrounding Adam's death, it is known that fentanyl is an extremely potent substance. The Drug Enforcement Agency calls fentanyl a drug "similar to morphine but about 100 times more potent." It warns that two milligrams, less than a grain of salt, of this synthetic opioid can be lethal depending on the size of a person's body.

Fentanyl, the biggest national threat in 2024
According to the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) 2024 National Threat Assessment report, fentanyl is emerging as one of the top threats to the country's stability this year, surpassing terrorism in terms of lethal impact.
The report explains that while terrorists pose a constant threat to the country, drugs, especially fentanyl, cause far more damage. "While terrorists pose an enduring threat to the Homeland, drugs kill and harm far more people in the United States annually," states the report, which predicts that fentanyl will continue to be the leading cause of narcotics-related death in the country.
