Former Celtics player Rajon Rondo arrested for possession of illegal drugs and weapons

Indiana authorities arrested the two-time NBA champion after they found the items inside his vehicle during a traffic stop.

Rajon Rondo, former NBA champion with the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers, was arrested in Indiana for possession of marijuana and illegal possession of firearms. He also had paraphernalia for drug use.

The arrest occurred Monday night. An Indiana State Police patrol car stopped Rondo after he committed a traffic violation while driving his vehicle in Jackson County. As they approached, one of the agents smelled marijuana and proceeded to search. Inside, they found a gun and different items for drug consumption. Despite having a license, Rondo is prohibited by court order from possessing a firearm after an incident that occurred in 2022.

Immediately afterwards, authorities arrested him, and after paying bail, he was released.

Rondo played his last NBA game in 2022 wearing the Cleveland Cavaliers jersey. He began his career in 2006, when he was selected by the Phoenix Suns with the 21st pick of the NBA Draft. The Suns traded him to the Celtics, where he played the best years of his basketball career, establishing himself as one of the best point guards in the league at the time.

With the Celtics, he shared the floor with players like Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce. In the 2007-2008 season, he was crowned NBA champion with the Celtics, a feat he would repeat with the Lakers 12 seasons later.

Rondo played 957 official NBA games with nine different franchises: the Boston Celtics, Dallas Mavericks, Sacramento Kings, Chicago Bulls, New Orleans Pelicans, Los Angeles Lakers, Atlanta Hawks, Los Angeles Clippers and Cleveland Cavaliers, averaging 9.8 points and 7.9 assists per game.
