Pennsylvania: Nine young people who escaped from a juvenile center captured

A state police spokesman confirmed the arrest early Monday.

A few days after the arrest of fugitive Danelo Cavalcante, Pennsylvania was again on alert due to the escape of these nine young people from Abraxas Academy, a juvenile center located in Morgantown (Caernarvon Township, Berks County), about 75 miles south of Pittsburg. David Beohm, a spokesman for the Pennsylvania State Police, said they were captured early Monday.

The escape occurred on Sunday afternoon - around 20:00 - after a riot in the center. "This evening there was a riot at Abraxas Academy located at 1000 Academy Drive. State and local law enforcement are on location and have taken back control of the juvenile detention center. It’s reported that some juvenile offenders have fled the facility and are currently on the run," the Caernarvon Police Department said in a statement. "They should be wearing white or grey shirts and grey shorts. If encountered call 911 immediately."

The mutiny was brought under control and some staff members were injured.

As the search continued, citizens residing near the center were alerted to be vigilant. In addition, the Twin Valley School District announced that there would be no classes on Monday:

Given the ongoing situation with Abraxas Academy, the District will be closing all schools and offices today, September 18th, out of an abundance of caution. In addition, all after-school and evening activities, including this evening’s Board Meeting, will be cancelled. The Board Meeting will be rescheduled.
