'Beverly Hills Cop' returns: 30 years later, Eddie Murphy will reprise the role of Axel Foley

The newest film in the saga, which will arrive on the platform in 2024, once again features Murphy playing the classic character.

The trend of rebooting successful film sagas from the past lives on in Hollywood. The latest is "Beverly Hills Cop," which will return 29 years after its last installment, "Beverly Hills Cop III" (1994), starring Eddie Murphy.

The new film, titled "Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley," will arrive on Netflix in 2024 and, as with many of these projects, will once again feature the return its leading star: Eddie Murphy. He will reprise his role as super detective Axel Foley, as the streaming platform revealed with the first image from the upcoming feature film:

According to entertainment magazine Empire, the film will not only bring back Murphy. It will also feature the return of Judge Reinhol, Paul Reiser and Bronson Pinchot. They will reprise their roles as Detective Sergeant William "Billy" Rosewood, Detective Jeffrey Friedman and Serge, respectively. The new feature film will also feature the return of Jerry Bruckheimer as producer.

Bruckheimer spoke exclusively to the magazine, promising "a prime performance from Murphy": "Anytime he walks on set, you never know what you’re going to get. And it’s always pretty brilliant. Every day he’s there throws you back to the ‘80s," Bruckheimer said.
