Singer Chuy Montana was shot to death in Tijuana, Mexico. The body of the artist, whose real name is Jesús Nolberto Cardenas Velázquez, appeared this Wednesday on a highway in Tijuana-Playas de Rosarito, near the town of La Gloria.
As reported by Milenio, the singer was handcuffed and the right side of his lower back had been beaten and shot. As confirmed by several witnesses, the people who kidnapped Montana took him, still alive, out of a copper-colored Renault Stepway vehicle with registration number AUF616A. As soon as he got out of the car, they shot him and fled.
But who was Chuy Montana? Known for his corridos tumbados, a subgenre of Mexican music, the artist signed with the label Street Mob Records, belonging to Jesús Ortíz Paz, the lead soloist of the regional Mexican band Fuerza Regida. It is the same record company that officially confirmed his death through a post on Instagram:

He came onto the music scene relatively recently. The San Diego-Tribune reports that Ortíz shared a post on TikTok the moment the company signed Chuy Montana. This was last year, while he was waiting in line to cross the border from Tijuana to go to San Francisco.
As can be seen in the video, the owner of Street Mob Records greeted Cárdenas, who was entertaining the people waiting to cross, and decided to sing him the song "Porte de Scarface." "I wrote the lyrics," Cárdenas replied proudly. Afterwards, Ortíz signed a blank sheet of paper and asked Cárdenas to do the same. The deal had been closed.

Through is agreement, Chuy Montana achieved more than 820,000 monthly listeners on Spotify. In addition, his single "Porte de Scarface," the same one that he sang to Ortíz and which was released in 2023, has more than 22 million listens.
