Kyle Rittenhouse, the young man who rose to fame after he tragically shot three individuals in self-defense during the disturbances in Kenosha, Wisconsin, in 2020, is now being sued by Joseph Rosenbaum's estate.

The events occurred at a riot in the city of Kenosha, which erupted after officers from the Kenosha Police Department killed a black man. Then 17 years old, Rittenhouse was patrolling the street with other civilians, armed with an AR-15-type assault rifle.

Several men attempted to assault Rittenhouse and take his firearm. That's when Rittenhouse opened fire on his attackers, killing two of them. One of the deceased was Joseph Rosenbaum.

The lawsuit filed by Rosenbaum's estate in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin was filed on the third anniversary of Rosenbaum's death. The estate is suing Rittenhouse as well as several members and officials of the Kenosha Police Department and the county sheriff's office.

Rosenbaum Complaint by Juan Pe

The lawsuit claims that the police "deputized" a group of people to patrol the streets and businesses that night. It also claims that the police didn't take any steps to control these civilian groups. Rosenbaum's estate also believes that the groups were encouraged to be racist and violent. The lawsuits against the authorities claim that law enforcement failed to keep people on the streets safe.

The lawsuit also alleges that Rosenbaum was peacefully protesting the death of a Black man, despite the fact that the sentence that declared Rittenhouse innocent and the videos recorded at the time show how Rosenbaum attacked Rittenhouse with a skateboard when he was on the ground.
