In-N-Out Burger will close the first restaurant in its history due to the rise of crime in Oakland

The company's director of operations explained that the safety of customers and associates is more important than the profit the company earns earn from the location.

The fast food chain In-N-Out Burger will close the first restaurant in its history - located in Oakland (California) - due to the increase in crime and delinquency in the city. The restaurant will close on March 24.

"We have made the decision to close our In-N-Out Burger location in Oakland, California, due to ongoing issues with crime. Despite taking repeated steps to create safer conditions, our Customers and Associates are regularly victimized by car break-ins, property damage, theft, and armed robberies," explained Denny Warnick, the company's chief operating officer.

Warnick added that despite the profitability they obtain with this location, "our top priority must be the wellbeing of our Customers and Associates," so "we cannot ask them to visit or work in an unsafe environment."
