Hunter Biden agrees to testify before the House Oversight Committee

Hunter's legal team announced that he will testify on Dec. 13, but under one condition: he will do so publicly and not behind closed doors.

Hunter Biden announced Tuesday that he will testify before the House Oversight Committee. His legal team stated that he will testify on Dec. 13 on Capitol Hill, although he will do so under one condition: he will speak publicly and not behind closed doors.

The president's son was requested to testify by the committee, led by the Republican Party. Days later, his lawyers announced that Hunter Biden granted the request.

Hunter's main lawyer, Abbe Lowell, made the announcement in a letter sent to House Oversight Chairman James Comer. The Daily Mail obtained access to the letter which reads:

We take you up on your offer. ... But - rather than subscribing to your cloaked, one-sided process - he will appear at a public Oversight and Accountability Committee hearing. ... We have seen you use closed-door sessions to manipulate, even distort the facts and misinform the public. We therefore propose opening the door. If, as you claim, your efforts are important and involve issues that Americans should know about, then let the light shine on these proceedings.

Oversight Committee replies to Hunter Biden

James Comer replied to the letter sent by Lowell denying Hunter Biden the possibility of testifying in public. According to a post Comer made on X (formerly Twitter), Joe Biden's son will have to testify behind closed doors on Dec. 13.

Hunter Biden is trying to play by his own rules instead of following the rules required of everyone else. That won’t stand with House Republicans. Our lawfully issued subpoena to Hunter Biden requires him to appear for a deposition on December 13.

However, Comer said, Republicans will not prevent Hunter from subsequently speaking in a public setting, albeit days after testifying before the House Oversight Committee:

We expect full cooperation with our subpoena for a deposition but also agree that Hunter Biden should have the opportunity to testify in a public setting at a future date.
