Trump Effect: Mexico announces over 6,600 arrests in 'Operation Northern Border' and more than 100,000 kilos of drugs seized

The operation, launched in February 2025 under pressure from the US president against fentanyl trafficking at the border, has also seized 5,423 vehicles and 1,039 properties.

The Mexican authorities reported that since the start of the 'Frontera Norte' operation, 8,665 people have been arrested.

The operation, which began on February 5, also recorded the seizure of 6,660 firearms and 1,157,590 cartridges of various calibers. The operation was launched under pressure from U.S. President Donald Trump, in the fight against fentanyl trafficking at the border.

Similarly, authorities indicated that at least 107.096 kilos of drugs have been seized, including 493.92 kg of fentanyl. Since its inception, authorities have also recovered 5,423 vehicles and 1,039 properties.

"The actions are materialized in strict adherence to the rule of law and with full respect for human rights," the Mexican government detailed in a statement.

Among the seizures and arrests, the following stand out:

Baja California: In Tijuana, two people were arrested, a hand gun, a magazine, eight cartridges, doses of methamphetamine, four cell phones and a property were seized.

Chihuahua: In Guachochi, two firearms, 28 magazines, 873 cartridges, three tactical vests, six ballistic plates, two pieces of armor, a vehicle with a theft report and a property were seized.

Sinaloa: In Culiacán, a clandestine laboratory and three areas of concentration of diverse material for the manufacture of synthetic drugs were located and dismantled, 4,920 liters and 4,620 kilos of substances for the manufacture of methamphetamine, six organic synthesis reactors, five condensers, two centrifuges and 10 L.P. gas tanks were seized.The economic impact on organized crime is 2,135 million pesos.

In another action in the same municipality, two people were arrested, one of them a minor, two firearms, two magazines, 35 cartridges and 10,321 fentanyl pills were seized.

Other interventions

Sonora: In Agua Prieta, three people were arrested, 1,070 doses of cocaine, 520 doses of methamphetamine, 295 marijuana cigarettes, two bags with marijuana and a vehicle were seized.

Tamaulipas: In Camargo, a firearm, 20 magazines, 459 cartridges, 24 improvised explosive devices and two vehicles were seized.

In Ciudad Mier, a Barrett rifle, two firearms, 39 magazines, 915 cartridges, three tactical vests, two ballistic plates and a vehicle with a theft report were seized.
