Colombian prosecutors have charged an alleged accomplice of the 15-year-old gunman accused of attempting to attack Senator and presidential hopeful Miguel Uribe.

The prosecutor’s office stated that the newly identified suspect, who turned himself in to authorities, is believed to have helped coordinate the logistics of Saturday’s attack, during which the 39-year-old senator was shot three times.

Earlier, the alleged shooter — a 15-year-old who was wounded in the leg during a chase by the bodyguards of Senator Miguel Uribe, a member of the right-wing Democratic Center party — was caught in the act.

"Charged with attempted murder and illegal possession of weapons, the teenager pleaded not guilty on Tuesday and is being held under tight security at a detention center.

The agency stated that the newly implicated suspect had conducted reconnaissance days earlier at the park in a popular Bogotá neighborhood where the attack took place.

On the day of the attack, he was in a car from which he handed a 9-millimeter Glock to the alleged gunman. The minor then entered the vehicle and changed clothes.

The prosecutor’s office also charged him with ‘using minors to commit crimes’ and illegal possession of weapons. Prosecutors have requested that he remain in custody.

Miguel Uribe's condition

Uribe showed the first signs of improvement on Wednesday after being shot twice in the head, though he remains in critical condition.

The masterminds behind the attack are still unknown.
