The Armed Forces flew the American citizen Travis Timmerman out of Syrian territory, numerous official sources reported.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, several officials told Reuters and CBS News that Timmerman was transferred to the US military base Al Tanf. From there, he was flown out of the country to Jordan by helicopter. He is now in the company of members of the State Department.

The director of the Syrian Emergency Task Force organization, Mouaz Moustafa, shared images that show the Missouri American in the hands of US troops:

Timmerman was found just days ago wandering the streets of Damascus. He claims that after spending more than half a year behind bars in Syria, he was released during the mass release of prisoners imprisoned by Bashar Assad, whose regime collapsed a week ago.

Although Washington claimed to be unaware of Timmerman's reasons for being in Syria, he himself stated that it was for religious reasons during an interview. A relative of his said he wanted to do a book on ancient churches.

Meanwhile, the search for the American journalist Austin Tice, kidnapped in 2012, continues. The new Syrian authorities assured that they would help find Tice and other Americans seized by Assad, AFP reported.
