Russia detained a 33-year-old American woman for allegedly raising funds for the Ukrainian military, accusing her of treason.

The arrest occurred in the city of Yekaterinburg, the same location where Russian authorities arrested Wall Street Journal journalist Evan Gershkovich in March.

Through a statement reported by Reuters, Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB), heir to the USSR-era intelligence agency, the KGB, reported that the arrest occurred after continuous monitoring that was carried out on the citizen for two years:

Since February 2022, she has been proactively collecting funds in the interests of one of the Ukrainian organisations, which were subsequently used to purchase tactical medicine items, equipment, weapons and ammunition by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The identity of the detained woman was not revealed. What was revealed was that she is a native of Los Angeles and that she also has a Russian passport.
