After the abdication of Queen Margaret II of Denmark, her son Frederik was proclaimed king. His wife, Mary Donaldson, and their four children stood beside him at his coronation. The new monarch, the tenth to bear the name in the Danish monarchy, praised his mother and promised to become "a king of unity for tomorrow," an idea captured in the motto of his mandate, which is "United, committed, for the kingdom of Denmark."

Heightened security measures

In front of a crowd and amid great security measures due to potential threats, social democratic Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen announced the new monarch from the balcony of Christiansborg Palace. Following protocol, Frederiksen shouted "Her Majesty Queen Margaret II has abdicated, long live His Majesty the King Frederik! Her Majesty Queen Margaret II has abdicated, long live His Majesty King Frederik! "Her Majesty Queen Margaret II has abdicated, long live His Majesty King Frederik X!" He shouted three times, one to the left, right and center of the crowd.

This is the first time in the 900 years of the Danish crown that a king has been crowned following the abdication of his predecessor.
