Two of the top favorites to win the US Open, Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz, advanced to the quarterfinals on the final day of the season’s last Grand Slam, defeating their opponents without dropping a set.

The 38-year-old Serbian had little trouble in his match, sweeping Jan-Lennard Struff in three sets (6-3, 6-3, 6-2) and keeping his hopes alive for a 25th Grand Slam. Djokovic said he was pleased with his performance against the German on Arthur Ashe Stadium.

"The way I played tonight gives me a lot of encouragement. It was the best performance of the tournament so far," said Nole at the end of the match against Struff.

In the next round, Djokovic will face the last remaining American at the US Open, Taylor Fritz, who defeated Czech Tomas Machac in three sets (6-4, 6-3, 6-3).

Alcaraz is in his "best moment mentally"

Alcaraz also had a smooth run in New York, defeating Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech in straight sets (7-6, 6-3, 6-4).

The 22-year-old Spanish tennis player said he is in his "best moment mentally," a mindset that makes him believe he can win his second US Open and sixth Grand Slam.

Alcaraz will face Czech Jiri Lehecka in the quarterfinals, after Lehecka defeated Frenchman Adrian Mannarino in four sets (7-6, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2).

Sabalenka, relentless in the US Open

In the women’s draw, world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka continues her dominant run at the US Open, not dropping a set. The 27-year-old Belarusian defeated Spain’s Cristina Bucsa decisively in two sets (6-1, 6-4).

In the next round, Sabalenka will face Czech Marketa Vondrousova, who upset Kazakh Elena Rybakina. Meanwhile, American Jessica Pegula remains in the tournament after defeating compatriot Ann Li.
