One of the best NBA players of recent times, Carmelo Anthony, announced his retirement after 19 seasons. He did not play this past year. He is the ninth leading scorer in the history of the NBA, with 28,289 points.

"I remember the days when I had nothing, just a ball on the court and dream of something more. But basketball was my outlet. My purpose was strong, my communities, the cities I represented with pride and the fans that supported me along the way. I am forever grateful for those people and places because they made me," said Carmelo Anthony in a video posted on his social media.

During those 19 seasons, Anthony donned the uniforms of the Denver Nuggets, New York Knicks, Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets, Portland Trail Blazers and Los Angeles Lakers.

In addition to being the NBA's ninth-leading scorer, Carmelo Anthony played in the All-Star game 10 times and was selected to an All-NBA team six times.

With the U.S. national team, he won three gold medals at the Olympic Games in Beijing 2008, London 2012 and Rio de Janeiro 2016.
