North Dakota senator and family die in plane crash

North Dakota state senator Doug Larsen, his wife and two young children have died in a plane crash in Utah. The information was confirmed by the leader of the Republican majority in the state Senate, David Hogue.
Police said Sen. Larsen, a 47-year-old Republican, was piloting the plane when it crashed just after taking off from Canyonlands Regional Airport. The National Transportation Safety Board reported on its X account (formerly Twitter) that the plane crash is being investigated.
"Senator Doug Larsen, his wife Amy, and their two young children died in a plane crash last evening in Utah. They were visiting family in Scottsdale and returning home. They stopped to refuel in Utah," David Hogue explained in an email to the Associated Press.
Doug Larsen was elected to the North Dakota Senate in 2020. Additionally, he served in the North Dakota National Guard for 29 years.
