Politicians' tributes to Jimmy Buffett: "Rest in paradise"
Bill Clinton, Joe Biden, Ted Cruz and other figures celebrated the life of the legendary singer.
The legendary singer Jimmy Buffett has died at the age of 76. The cause of his death, which occurred while he was at home, has not yet been confirmed. "Jimmy passed away peacefully on the night of September 1 surrounded by his family, friends, music and dogs. He lived his life as a song until his last breath and many will miss him," his team posted on his social media accounts. Among those who will miss him are many politicians, who have already begun to write their tributes to him on social networks.
Throughout his extensive career as a singer and businessman, the author of "Margaritaville" was related to figures from all walks of life and, of course, from local and national politics. One of them was Bill Clinton, who even received him at the White House when he was president.
"Jimmy Buffett's music brought happiness to millions of people. I'll always be grateful for his kindness, generosity, and great performances through the years, including at the White House in 2000. My thoughts are with his family, friends, and legion of devoted fans," he wrote on his X account, formerly known as Twitter.
"Favorable winds and favorable seas, dear Jimmy," added Hillary Clinton, a former senator and candidate for president in 2016.
Another who wrote a tribute was the current president, Joe Biden, who chose to issue a press release on the matter. "A poet of paradise, Jimmy Buffett was an American music icon who inspired generations to step back and find the joy in life and in one other."
"His witty, wistful songs celebrate a uniquely American cast of characters and seaside folkways, weaving together an unforgettable musical mix of country, folk, rock, pop and calypso into something uniquely his own."
Doug Jones, a former Democratic senator from Alabama, paid tribute to Buffett and highlighted a show in which he participated after the elections that brought the Democrat to the Upper House. "Louise and I are so sad about the passing of the great Jimmy Buffett. Following the 2017 election he serenaded us in Key West with "Stars Fell on Alabama." He lived life to the fullest and the world will miss him," he commented.
Across the aisle, Ted Cruz also wrote a goodbye tribute to the singer with a social media post. "Jimmy Buffett was a legendary musician who lived his life knowing it was always 5:00 somewhere. Rest in peace to this American icon who brought happiness to so many. Enjoy a well-deserved #CheeseburgerInParadise," the Texas senator wrote.
Kari Lake, a former Arizona gubernatorial candidate and potential Senate candidate, also wrote a tribute to the singer on X. "Thank you for bringing so much happiness to this world. Rest in paradise, Jimmy Buffett."
