Trump strikes back and sues Carroll for defamation
The former president has decided to take action after the writer was allowed to amend her lawsuit, which seeks an additional $10 million in compensation.
The court battle between Donald Trump and E. Jean Carroll continues. After Justice authorized the writer and journalist to amend her lawsuit against the former president for defamation during an interview on CNN, Trump has decided to fight back and file a counter claim for the same reason.
The former president believes that Carroll took advantage of an appearance on CNN the day after learning he was ordered to pay her $5 million in damages, to denigrate his image. Therefore Trump has decided to file his own lawsuit.
Roberta Kaplan, the writer's lawyer, referred to the former president's response in a statement published by CNN, describing it as an argument "against logic and the facts":
The next trial between the two will be held on January 15, 2024. A judge will decide whether Trump must pay Carroll an additional $10 million.
