Rapper Big Pokey dies after collapsing during a show
The Houston-based artist collapsed while performing at a bar in Beaumont, Texas.
Renowned rapper Big Pokey (48) passed away Sunday night after collapsing during an event at a Texas bar.
In a video circulating on social media, Big Pokey is seen on a balcony, microphone in hand. He is heard snorting just before he falls backwards, after which several people rush to his assistance.
The musician was transported to the nearest hospital. Those close to Milton “Big Pokey” Powell confirmed on his Instagram that the artist passed away the day after the incident.
They notified, also, that in the coming days they would release details of the burial and how the public will be able to pay tribute to him. "Big Pokey will forever be 'The HardestPit in the Litter' [in reference to his debut album]."
"I wasn't ready for this," wrote Bun B, his partner in Boston hip hop collective Screwed Up. "He was easy to love and hard to hate. He’d pull up, do what he had to do and head home. One of the pillars of our city. If heart of gold was a person. Iconic member of the SUC. There will never be another and will be missed dearly. We love and honor you Sensei. Rest in heaven."
