Border, Maduro, Iran and tariffs: Trump highlights 25 achievements from his second term

President Donald Trump published a list of what he considers the top 25 achievements of his administration, just a few weeks before the Nov. 3 midterm election, in which Republicans are vying for control of Congress, AFP reported.

In an extensive post published on Friday on Truth Social, Trump primarily highlighted his policies on immigration, the economy and foreign policy.

In the post, the president begins by claiming that he achieved "the most secure border in history" and that over the past 16 months, no undocumented immigrant was admitted into the country.

Trump also lists among his key achievements the signing of the Laken Riley Act, the drop in the homicide rate, the tax cuts approved during his administration, and investment commitments totaling $19.2 trillion.

Tariffs, investment and energy

On the economic front, Trump highlights the tariffs imposed on foreign products and presents them as a tool to revive the U.S. manufacturing industry.

The list mentions 50% tariffs on foreign copper, aluminum and steel and 25% tariffs on imported automobiles, while also asserting that U.S. exports are on track to reach $2.5 trillion in goods this year.

Trade policy remains one of Trump's main priorities, although it has also sparked retaliation and new tensions with some of the United States' partners.

Trump also advocates for the declaration of a national energy emergency, the expansion of fossil fuel production, and the dismantling of regulations on electric vehicles that his administration considers harmful to the automotive industry.

Maduro, Iran and military operations

Foreign policy occupies a significant portion of the list.

Trump cites as one of his achievements the capture and surrender to justice of Nicolás Maduro, whom he calls an "outlaw dictator," through the so-called Operation Absolute Resolve.

He also claims that the United States destroyed Iran's nuclear enrichment capabilities through Operations Midnight Hammer and Epic Fury, and maintains that this action will ensure that Tehran does not obtain a nuclear weapon.

The conflict with Iran, however, has become one of the issues weighing most heavily on the U.S. electoral landscape.

Immigration, DEI and other domestic priorities

Among the remaining points, Trump highlights the elimination of federal diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) policies, restrictions on the participation of transgender athletes in women's sports, and measures against certain content regarding gender identity and critical race theory in schools.

He also calls for the creation of “Trump Accounts”—tax-advantaged investment accounts for children—the suspension of refugee admissions from certain countries, and the deployment of the National Guard in cities such as Washington, Memphis and New Orleans.

The last item on the list also recalls one of the symbolic decisions of his second term: declaring English the official language of the United States.

The post comes at a particularly sensitive time for the White House. Republicans hold narrow majorities in Congress and are facing a campaign marked by inflation, gas prices and foreign policy.

Trump has stepped up his involvement in the campaign and has turned the midterm election into a defense of the results of his first two years back in the White House.
