Jim Jordan has decided not to force a third vote on his candidacy for speaker of the House of Representatives. Despite this decision, it does not necessarily mean he will not make another run for the position in the future.

For the moment, the Republican representative will endorse his party colleague Patrick McHenry to be interim speaker until January.

On Tuesday, Jordan came up short in the first vote to become speaker of the House. Twenty Republicans voted with the Democrats to prevent him from getting the necessary votes.

Hours later, his bid was put to a second vote. On this occasion, he again failed to obtain the necessary support, with 22 Republican representatives who did not support him.
