68% of Americans do not see Joe Biden as physically or mentally fit to be reelected
According to a survey, the president's state of health alarms citizens. In addition, a large majority rejects the direction the country is heading under his mandate.
Two months after making his candidacy for the 2024 presidential elections official, Joe Biden has not managed to change the opinion of Americans on whether his physical and mental conditions are fit to venture a second term. According to an NBC News poll, nearly seven in ten respondents (68%) do not see the president as fit to lead the United States for four more years.
This record was up 17 points from the last time NBC News polled - just a month before the last election - on his physical and mental state: in October 2020, 51% did not see him as fit to be president. Age is Joe Biden's main handicap, to which must be added the numerous lapses he has had in recent years that have generated a certain amount of alarmism about his situation. The latest, failing to correctly identify the U.S. anthem during the official White House reception for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In addition, 60% of those consulted considered that Joe Biden should not be reelected as President of the United States. NBC News compiled the poll based on 1,000 respondents between June 16 and June 20.
And what does Donald Trump look like?
We could see a new Biden-Trump duel at the polls in November 2024. Regarding this hypothetical electoral dispute, NBC News also inquired about how Donald Trump is viewed, both physically and mentally. And the perception is quite different from that of the president.
55% of respondents do not see Donald Trump in the right physical and mental condition to return to the White House, while 44% do see him capable of leading the United States as he did between 2017 and 2021.
Majority rejection of the direction in which the country is heading under Joe Biden's tenure
In the same poll, NBC News asked whether the country is headed in the right direction with Joe Biden at the helm of the federal administration. And the response was resounding: nearly three out of four Americans (74%) said the United States is on the wrong track.
Only 20% support Joe Biden's actions and the way he is leading the country, while 6% chose not to answer the question.
