Alabama outlaws men's participation in women's sports at all educational levels

It is the second state to institute such a ban, following North Dakota. "It’s about fairness, plain and simple," said Governor Kay Ivey after signing.

"If you are a biological male, you are not going to be competing in women’s and girls’ sports in Alabama. It’s about fairness, plain and simple." These were the statements made by Alabama Governor Kay Ivey after outlawing men's participation in women's sports at the state's public colleges and universities.

In 2021, Ivey banned boys from competing in girls' competitions and girls in boys' leagues in K-12 schools. Two years later, the Alabama Legislature, which has a large Republican majority in both its House of Representatives and Senate, decided to move forward and push to outlaw cross-gender participation in sports at all educational levels.

Alabama thus becomes the second state, following North Dakota, to enact legislation to protect women's sports at all levels of education. In addition, 18 other states have also implemented a similar law for either K-12 schools or higher education, the woke think tank MAP reported.
