New York Representative-elect George Santos is facing an investigation after admitting that he lied about several facts about his life during his 2022 election campaign.

The congressman has been singled out by Nassau County District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly for the "numerous fabrications and inconsistencies associated with the congressman-elect."

Donnelly pointed out that "no one is above the law" and assured that if a crime has been committed, Santos will be prosecuted.

"The residents of Nassau County and other parts of the third district must have an honest and accountable representative in Congress," she said.

Santos is expected to testify under oath before the House of Representatives next Tuesday.

Santos admitted to having lied

The 34-year-old Republican congressman acknowledged a few days ago that he did not work "directly" for Goldman Sachs and Citigroup, but rather for a company that had business for the two financial companies.

According to the newly elected representative, in reality it was not an intentional lie but a "bad choice of words."

However, this would not be the only information that would not match the truth. Santos lied about his alleged university degree, since during the campaign he said he graduated in 2010 from Baruch, but that never happened.

"The numerous lies and inconsistencies related to Congressman-elect Santos are astounding," said Republican Attorney Anne T. Donnelly.

The representative-elect was also criticized for the dozens of properties he claimed to own, although it later turned out that this is not true. Santos stated that he actually resides at his sister's house in Huntington as he does not have any home in his name.

Despite all the false things the congressman said, he said he does not consider himself a criminal and affirmed that he will not allow the controversy against him, prevent him from having "good legislative success."
