Mar-a-Lago: Judge Reinhart to release version of warrant that justified raid
The decision came after requesting an affidavit from the Department of Justice for the investigative warrant on Trump's home.
Federal Judge Bruce Reinhart confirmed Thursday his decision to release a limited version of the Department of Justice (DOJ) affidavit. That document is the one that was used to justify the FBI raid at Mar-a-Lago.
Initially, it is not detailed how much information will be included about the investigation. What will be protected is the sensitive material that is under secret summary, such as the people involved, the sources or the methods used in the raid.
The Justice Department initially refused to release the affidavit. The investigating judge in the case ordered the DOJ last week to deliver a redacted copy of the statement, with August 25 as the deadline.
The Biden Administration complied with the order and delivered the copy of the statement yesterday. "I find that the Government has met its burden of showing a compelling reason/good cause to seal portions of the Affidavit" Judge Reinhart noted.
The magistrate's initiative came after a request from the media to disclose the contents of the investigation due to the public interest it generates.
Trump's position
For his part, Donald Trump demanded to publish the full affidavit used to allow the raid on his Mar-a-Lago residence. The former president denounced what he considered a "witch hunt" and warned that the American people "will not put up with another scam".
This is why he demanded transparency from the Justice Department, with which he is willing to collaborate.
