Ten people died, including two children, and 18 were hospitalized due to a bus accident in southeastern Brazil, authorities reported Tuesday.

The driver of the bus, which was carrying 45 passengers, "lost control" of the vehicle in the early hours of Tuesday morning at the height of Araguari, in the state of Minas Gerais, firefighters reported on social media.

"There were 10 fatalities, including two children," while 18 other passengers were hospitalized, "some of them with more serious conditions," according to the same source.

The bus was traveling between the states of Goiás and São Paulo, firefighters said.

Road accidents involving buses are frequent in Brazil.

In February, 12 university students died in an accident between a bus and a truck in the state of Sao Paulo (southeast).

In December last year, 41 people died in another bus accident in the state of Minas Gerais, the worst on the country's federal highways since 2007.
