Johnson & Johnson is changing its logo for the first time in 136 years. The multinational manufacturer of medical, pharmaceutical and personal care products announced this change to convey a more modern and innovative image.

"Our exclusive focus on Innovative Medicine and MedTech solutions enables us to innovate across the full spectrum of healthcare in ways no other company can," Joaquin Duato, chief executive officer of Johnson & Johnson, said in a statement. "Uniting our diverse businesses under an updated Johnson & Johnson brand reflects our unique ability to reimagine healthcare through transformative innovation while staying true to Our Credo values and the level of care that patients and doctors expect of us."

Johnson & Johnson will keep its logo red, although it will give it a brighter, more powerful look that reflects the company's objective.

The new look, which will be used for both the long (Johnson & Johnson) and abbreviated (J&J) models, will be gradually rolled out to all of the company's assets and products. Executive Vice President of Global Corporate Affairs Vanessa Broadhurst said:
