Lloyd Austin, Secretary of Defense, has been hospitalized since January 1 after experiencing pain from an elective medical procedure performed in December.
Meanwhile, Pentagon officials have not said when he will be discharged and have not given details about the mysterious illness that afflicts him.
Pentagon press secretary Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder told Fox News that the defense secretary was admitted to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center last Monday without providing further details on the matter.
According to Ryder, on January 1, Austin began experiencing “severe pain,” was taken back to Walter Reed, and was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Everything would be related to the elective medical procedure that was carried out on December 22.
According to Ryder, Austin was placed in an ICU to ensure immediate access to his medical needs. Also, for privacy reasons.
According to the press secretary, Austin resumed his duties from the hospital and is now in good spirits and fully recovering.
“Since resuming his duties on Friday evening, the Secretary has received operational updates and has provided necessary guidance to his team,” Ryder told Fox News. “He has full access to required communications capabilities and continues to monitor DoD’s day-to-day operations worldwide.”
