Daniel Sancho, son of Spanish actor Rodolfo Sancho, could face the death penalty in Thailand

He confessed to killing and dismembering Colombian plastic surgeon Edwin Arrieta Arteaga in a media case with numerous questions.

Daniel Sancho, son of Spanish actor Rodolfo Sancho, remains in Thailand's Hoh Samui prison after pleading guilty to murdering Colombian surgeon Edwin Arrieta, 44.

The defendant, 29 years old, will have to stay a few days in the sanitary area of the prison under the covid protocol and will only be visited by his lawyer, Khun Anan. The police are expected to complete their report within three weeks. Sources close to the actor's family said that Daniel Sancho is collaborating with the investigation and actively participating in the reconstruction of the events with the police.

If tried in Thailand, he could face charges of premeditated murder and concealing body parts to prevent recognition of the body. The conviction could carry penalties ranging from 15 years' imprisonment to life imprisonment and even the death penalty.

The Spaniard, Daniel Sancho Bronchalo, acknowledged last Sunday in statements to the Spanish news agency Efe, that he is guilty of the murder and dismemberment in Thailand of his Colombian friend Edwin Arrieta Arteaga, a 44-year-old plastic surgeon with whom he met in the Asian country after a close friendship, and that he did it because felt hostage to the surgeon, as if held in a "glass cage." The alleged murderer was in a hotel room with the deceased, whom he allegedly dismembered after having participated in a Full Moon Party, events well known in Thailand for bringing together hundreds of young people and where alcohol and drugs are not lacking.

"I am guilty, but I was Edwin's hostage. He was holding me hostage. It was a glass cage, but it was a cage. He made me destroy my relationship with my girlfriend, he forced me to do things I would never have done," said the accused, who is currently a chef and works in a catering company, uncovering a case that has generated great interest in the Spanish and Latin American press.
