Bud Light is no longer the best-selling beer in the United States

The Modelo brand has captured the leading position in sales by achieving an 8.34% share of the dollars spent on beer, surpassing Anheuser-Busch's 8.28% share through August 12th

Bud Light is no longer the best-selling beer in the country. The company's campaign with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney — which led to a consumer boycott of the brand — continues to create problems. Modelo's sales in supermarkets and breweries during 2023 has surpassed Bud Light.

This would be a significant change because Bud Light has held the position of best-selling beer in the United States for much of the past two decades. According to NIQ data, which was published by CNN, Modelo has acquired the top spot in sales by attaining an 8.34% share of dollars spent on beer versus Bud Light's 8.28% as of August 12.

"Summer has been a bright spot for the Mexican lager, with Modelo surpassing Bud Light in May, June and July monthly sales. Modelo has held a 9.1% share for the past four weeks as Bud Light slipped to a 7% share of off-premise beer sales," CNN said.

"Modelo is distributed by New York-based Constellation Brands (STZ). The company posted an 11% increase in sales in its second-quarter earnings, released in June, bolstered by its beer business, which also includes Corona," the news outlet added.

"I'll be the first in line to buy that brand from you."

Bud Light is going through difficult times after the controversy generated by the campaign with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney. Through a statement published last month, the company broke down its latest economic results. Anheuser-Busch's revenue from sales of its products had decreased 10.5% in the U.S. between April and June compared to the same period last year.

In the midst of the company's crisis, Billy Busch, the heir to the Anheuser-Busch family, said he was willing to take back the company that his family sold in 2008. All it took was for InBev to be willing to sell it, as he claimed in an episode of Fearless, the podcast made by Tomi Lahren:

I urge that company, InBev, if they don’t want that brand any longer, sell it back to the Busch family. Sell it to me. I’ll be the first in line to buy that brand back from you. And we’ll make that brand great again.
