Lawyers representing Donald Trump asked the Georgia Supreme Court to disqualify Democratic prosecutor Fani T. Willis, who is investigating whether Trump violated state laws by trying to reverse President Biden's victory.
In the petition issued last Thursday, Drew Findling, Marissa Goldberg and Jennifer Little also requested that any evidence gathered by the grand jury and the final report be blocked. It was followed by a similar one on Friday before the Fulton County Superior Court.
The attorneys had already filed a motion with the Fulton County Superior Court in April. That request is still pending. In view of the inactivity, the legal team decided to appeal to a higher court.
Trump’s legal team also criticized Judge Robert McBurney, whom they had asked to be removed in March on the grounds that he had given inadequate legal guidance that violated the rights of witnesses and parties.
The former president's problem lies in two issues: his famous phone call with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger in which he slipped that he needed to find enough votes to win the election and his efforts to assemble a sort of surrogate constituency.
