Texas sends first flight with immigrants to Chicago

Governor Greg Abbott announced the move following the Democratic city's decision to stop letting in buses from the border state.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott reported that he has flown asylum seekers from his state to Chicago for the first time. The flight contains at least 100 immigrants, and Abbott published the details of the measure this Wednesday.

Abbott's decision came after Chicago began stopping buses transporting immigrants from Texas, following a new policy that authorizes city authorities to seize buses coming from Texas that had not been coordinated at least 48 hours in advance. The city also stops buses that do not arrive at their designated destination or do not do so within the official hours of 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

"Sanctuary city Chicago started obstructing and targeting our busing mission," Abbott said in a message he posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Abbot will continue 'until Biden steps up to secure the border'

Republican Greg Abbott maintained that he will continue with this measure until Joe Biden implements policies to stop the immigration crisis at the southern border and that Texas will now expand its operation to include flights to Chicago.

"Until Biden steps up to secure the border, we will continue to provide overwhelmed Texas border towns with much-needed relief," Abbott stressed.

A Chicago city official assured that they are taking measures to provide shelter to immigrants who are arriving at O'Hare International Airport, according to Axios.
