'Summer is Coming': these are the most popular destinations to visit

Travel season is just around the corner and Google Flights has published a list of the most searched places for tourists who want to get away.

As summer approaches, Americans are gearing up for the travel season. Google Flights released information on the most searched flights within the country ahead of the season.

Some of the most popular domestic destinations have one thing in common: they almost always include warm, sunny locations:

Orlando, Florida: Although it is not a coastal city as it is located in the center of the state, it is very close to the best beaches of the Sunshine State. Some of them are less than an hour's drive away. It is also home to more than a dozen theme parks: Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, as well as many water parks.

2. New York, New York: People who are familiar with The Big Apple will tell you that it is a city that will always surprise you. NYC brings together different cultures within the same city and, therefore, it is one of the most diverse places in the world: 36% of its residents were born outside the U.S. and almost half speak a language other than English. Some of its most popular sites are the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty, Broadway, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Central Park, Rockefeller Center, Times Square, and many more.

3. Las Vegas, Nevada: It is the "entertainment capital of the world," known for being an "adult amusement park." It is a tourist city famous for its active nightlife, with casinos open 24 hours a day. Its main street is called The Strip, a boulevard with themed hotels, and replicas of an Egyptian pyramid, the Grand Canal of Venice and the Eiffel Tower.

4. Seattle, Washington: It is the largest city in the state. It is surrounded by trees and mountains which contrasts with its large technological industry. The headquarters of Microsoft and Amazon are located there, as well as the famous Space Needle.

5. Miami, Florida: The city is home to a large number of Hispanics. The Cuban culture is felt in the restaurants of the iconic Calle Ocho in Little Havana. Visitors can't miss the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, Wynwood Walls, Bayside Marketplace, Zoo Miami, Miami Design District and the American Airlines Arena.

6. Los Angeles, California: This city is considered to be "the nucleus of the television and film industry in the country." Hollywood, home to studios such as Paramount Pictures, Universal and Warner Brothers, which offer tours of their facilities. Other attractions include Hollywood Boulevard, Grauman's Chinese Theater and the Walk of Fame.

7. Fort Lauderdale, Florida: It is the seventh largest city in the state and is known as the "Venice of America." It got this name due to its extensive system of saltwater canals. Visitors shouldn't miss taking a cruise, fishing guides, shopping malls, Olas Boulevard and the Bonnet House Museum and Gardens, among others.

8. Denver, Colorado: It is a "metropolis dating back to the Old West." Its iconic Larimer Square is the oldest part of the city, with buildings dating back to the 19th century. Its main include the Denver Art Museum and the Titanic Survivors' Molly Brown House.

9. Honolulu, Hawaii: An island to remember. The most famous area is the Waikiki neighborhood, which has a myriad of restaurants and active nightlife. Its iconic crescent-shaped beach lined with palm trees and the Diamond Head volcanic crater are the main tourist attractions.

10. Chicago, Illinois: The city is famous for its "bold architecture." Its iconic skyscrapers, such as the John Hancock Center, the Willis Tower and the Tribune Tower attract tourists. "Landmarks in the city include Millennium Park, Art Institute of Chicago, Grant Park, Museum of Science and Industry, and Lincoln Park Zoo."
