The northeastern region of the country is grappling with a severe snowstorm that has led to more than 1,500 flight cancellations and numerous power outages. The heavy snowfall has has also resulted in the closure of several roads in New York and Pennsylvania, states that have borne the brunt of the storm.
In the state of Pennsylvania, Newberry authorities confirmed that one person died as a result of the storm. He was a 20 year old man. According to the Newberry Police Department, the man was riding a snowmobile when he collided with a downed and disabled electrical pole.
The accident occurred around the 200 block of York Road, in York County. The county coroner confirmed his death, but his identity has not yet been released.

Hours before the accident, the New York State Department of Transportation urged citizens to use caution when traveling on roads in several counties. Some secondary interstate highways had high concentrations of ice and snow, forcing travel below normal speeds. Others were shut down due to snow.
Also reported Tuesday was the death of an elderly woman in the Brooklyn borough of New York City. According to the Police Department, the 74-year-old woman died when a brick fell on her. The woman was clearing the driveway of her home, which was completely covered in snow. Then a decorative window sill collapsed.
