The storm making its way across the Northeast is hindering travel and transportation infrastructure. Heavy snow and rain have caused more than 1,500 flights to be canceled, most of them in the Northeast: in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
Roads have also been impacted by snow, and New York state authorities issued a warning for those traveling along Interstate 84 this Tuesday. The Department of Transportation announced that its crews worked overnight to clear the roads and recommend drivers to maintain a maximum speed of 35 miles per hour.

Interstate 684 was also affected. The latest update from the Department of Transportation lists it as blocked due to heavy snowfall through the night and early morning. Roads in Rockland, Dutchess and Westchester Counties are especially affected.

1,500 flights canceled throughout the country
According to the air tracking portal Flight Aware, at least 1,500 flights have been canceled throughout the country on Tuesday. Most of these cancelations had origin or destination airports in the Northeast.
About 40% of the total cancellations are concentrated at New York's La Guardia Airport. Another 25% are at Boston Logan Airport. About 24% at Newark Liberty Airport in New Jersey and finally 15% at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York.
More than 140,000 homes without electricity
The storm also caused problems for the electricity supply in the northwest region. The state of Pennsylvania is the most affected this Tuesday. According to the poweroutage.us, at least 140,000 homes on the electrical grid were left without power simultaneously at 1:12 p.m. this Tuesday in Pennsylvania.
Another 12,000 experienced a power outage in New Jersey and 5,000 in the state of New York. On the other side of the country, rain in California also caused problems, and 11,000 homes were left without power this Tuesday.
