On Monday, Ron DeSantis came in second place among Republicans in the Iowa caucus ahead of the November presidential elections. The governor of Florida, according to projections, obtained 21% of the votes, ahead of former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley (19%). This is a weak result for the candidate, who had bet heavily on Iowa and who after the result criticized the media for their projections of Donald Trump's resounding victory.
DeSantis accused the media of "interference" in the Iowa caucus, which ultimately favored the former president by projecting his victory before many voters could cast their ballots. "It is absolutely outrageous that the media would participate in election interference by calling the race before tens of thousands of Iowans even had a chance to vote," the Florida governor said in a statement:
The media is in the tank for Trump and this is the most egregious example yet.
DeSantis' team was especially critical of the media for projecting results before authorities gave the official numbers and before the participants in the electoral process had cast their votes. His team believes that many voters were able to see on their phones that Trump was already being crowned the winner.
