Paul Pelosi, husband of Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House of Representatives, reappeared publicly after being attacked at his home in San Francisco (California) on October 28.
The Pelosis attended Sunday's Kennedy Center Honors. These awards are given by the U.S. government for excellence in cultural achievement. The speaker's husband smiled and waved to the audience as they gave him a standing ovation. Among those in attendance were President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.
The black hat and gloves he wore covered the wounds he sustained in the attack, which resulted in a fractured skull and several hand injuries.

Paul Pelosi, 82, was attacked in San Francisco while at his family home. The assailant broke into the home asking for his wife Nancy who was in Washington at the time.
The attack
The husband of the Speaker of the House of Representatives was seriously injured by a hammer to the head following an attack by David DePape, a Canadian immigrant who was illegally on U.S. soil.
DePape forced his way into the Pelosi home through the back door and, once inside, made his way to the bedroom, where Paul was sleeping. The assailant was arrested after Paul Pelosi called the police.
After the arrest, police seized items such as duct tape, a white rope, a second hammer, rubber gloves and cloth in his backpack that belonged to the attacker.
According to investigators, DePape had a list of more potential targets.
According to the San Francisco Police Department, the assailant planned to hold Nancy hostage because he saw her as the "leader of the pack" in the Democratic Party. His ex-partner Oxana Taub, with whom he had three children and who is imprisoned in California for kidnapping, described him as a "mentally ill" progressive activist.
