Nicaragua: Ortega's government bans the Miss Universe team from returning to the country

The government suspects that the Miss Nicaragua team is an opponent of the regime.

Daniel Ortega's government banned the country's Miss Universe delegation from reentering the country after traveling to El Salvador to compete. The director of the Miss Universe Nicaragua team, Karen Celebertti is at the center of the controversy.

Celebertti is also the owner of the Miss Nicaragua franchise. Upon returning to her country this Thursday, she was turned away from entering the country at the airport and she was sent back to Mexico.

She is not the only one. Her daughter, who was with her throughout the pageant, was also refused entry to the country. It is unknown whether Miss Universe 2023 and Miss Nicaragua, Sheynnis Palacios will be allowed to return. According to the Nicaraguan newspaper La Prensa, the Ortega government previously denied her from reentering Nicaragua but ended up revoking that order.

Sheynnis Palacios and Miss Nicaragua's entourage are suspected of being opponents of Daniel Ortega's regime. This is one of the main reasons why the Nicaraguan government doesn't want them to return to the country.
