Mike Johnson endorses Trump in the Republican primaries

The speaker noted in an interview on CNBC that "we have to make Biden a one-term president."

As the Republican primaries approach, each of the candidates is beginning to receive public endorsements from their party colleagues. The latest to speak out was Mike Johnson. The speaker of the House of Representatives gave his support to former President Donald Trump ahead of the primary race.

"I’m all in for President Trump. I expect he’ll be our nominee, and we have to make Biden a one-term president," the speaker said during an interview on CNBC's “Squawk Box” program. In addition, he was considered one of the "closest allies" that the former president has within the Capitol.

In his speech, Johnson took the opportunity to praise Trump for his unwavering stance on what happened in the last presidential election. "I take him at his word, I do believe that he believes that. He just felt like he was cheated in that election. And I think that’s a core conviction of his," said the speaker of the House of Representatives.

He also praised Trump for his years at the head of the federal administration:

He had a phenomenal first term. Those first two years, as everyone knows, we achieved the greatest economic numbers in the history of the world, not just the country, because his policies worked and I totally agree with President Trump.

Johnson is not the first prominent member of the Republican Party to show support for Trump for the Republican primary. A few days ago, Senator Rick Scott expressed his firm support for the former president, as did South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem in August.
