Mexican soccer player Diego Chávez Collins dies in a car accident

The Juárez Braves player died at the age of 28 after crashing at high speed in Ciudad Juárez.

(AFP) Mexican soccer player Diego Chávez Collins died on Wednesday at the age of 28 in a car accident in Ciudad Juárez, his last team, the Bravos de Juárez, reported.

"It is with deep sadness that we inform the entire FC Juárez community that our player Diego el 'Puma' Chávez died early this morning on February 14 in a car accident," the Braves announced on their social networks on Wednesday afternoon.

According to local television reports from Ciudad Juárez (northern Mexico), Diego Chávez was driving his car at excess speed on a local avenue and crashed into a median.

After knocking over a vehicle advertisement and crashing into a pole, the car was overturned. The soccer player died instantly, according to authorities reports.

Liga MX (first division of Mexican soccer) and the clubs that make it up expressed their condolences during the afternoon.

Diego Chávez, who played as an offensive midfielder, debuted in the first division in 2015 with the Tiburones del Veracruz. He also played for Rayos del Necaxa and Diablos del Toluca. Since the Apertura-2023 tournament he played for the Bravos de Juárez.

Abroad he had spells with Salamanca in Spain's third division and with Carlos A. Mannucci in Peru's top circuit.
